These are some of my favourite things! It might be something for your kitchen, a great recipe book, a gadget, or an ingredient. Some are old favourites, some are brand new on the shelves. These are not ad’s, they are just the things I love.

 

 

Wusthof Classic Chef’s Knife 20cm: This is the newest member of my growing knife collection. It is quite heavy,  but just fabulous to work with and deadly sharp. R930 from Yuppiechef.

 

 

KitchenAid Artisan Food Processor: This is my workhorse when I need anything chopped, sliced, grated, pulped – in bulk. It is a sturdy and durable machine with a really large feeding tube and a 2.8 litre work bowl. Also with mini bowl and various attachments. 650W motor power. R4190 from Yuppiechef.

 

 

Wusthof Classic Mini Super Slicer & Spreader: We all received this handy multi-tasking knife at the Food Blogger Indaba 2012. All I can tell you is this: there is no knife on earth that can slice a tomato like this knife. It is a fantastic all-rounder and I experience tremendous joy when using it. Le Creuset 30 cm Casserole: This one is on my wish list: the ultimate all-round casserole for your stovetop and in the oven. My favourite colour is “dune”. Price: R1898 from www.yuppiechef.co.za


 

 

Kenwood Patissier: This stand mixer is a work-horse of note! I’ve used it in my kitchen for many years, and it is the best deal for money of all the stand mixers on the block. It comes with 3 attachments: dough hook, K beater and whisk, and has a large 4 litre stainless steel bowl with handle. As far as I know, it is available in 2 colours in SA: red and white. Price: around R1254.

 

 

 

Scrumptious – Food for Family and Friends (Jane-Anne Hobbs): This recipe book was written by fellow blogger and friend Jane-Anne Hobbs. She is a heavy-weight in the recipe development world, and a self-taught cook with a natural understanding of flavours. This is one of my top 3 recipe books from a local author, and I can seriously recommend it to anyone who loves entertaining! The recipes are written for groups of 8 guests. The pictures are simply styled and every single dish looks the part – just scrumptious. My favourite recipes are: 1) Mike’s Youvetsi, 2) Frozen Lemon Cream with Summer Berries and 3) Beef Fillet and Potato Salad with Green Goddess Dressing. Price: R260 at www.randomstruik.co.za.

 

Fast, Fresh, Simple (Donna Hay): This is Donna’s most recent book, and it is a true source of inspiration. The recipes are all very simple, and I am just amazed at how Donna can create big flavours with really basic ingredients. The pictures are breathtaking. It is a MUST-buy. Lazy Days – Contemporary Country-Style Cooking (Phillippa Cheifitz): This is one of my all-time favourite cookbooks in my cupboard. Phillippa is such an icon in the South African food world, and her recipes are simply timeless. Be sure to try Phillippa’s “country pancakes”, “roast garlic prawns” and “”buttermilk scones” – simply the best. Price: around R251 (currently out of stock on www.yuppiechef.co.za)
